Traditional Story
Region: Arctic
Teaching: Love

This retelling of a traditional story teaches the importance of love and respect for others. Raven, the Creator, watches his creations and tries to learn more about them. He is particularly fascinated by Whale and wonders what it would be like inside Whale. Inside Whale, Raven finds a dancing woman with strings attached to Whale’s heart. Wanting to know more about her, Raven forces her to the outer world, despite her protests that Whale needed her and she could not live without him. When she is separated from Whale, they both die. From this, Raven learns that every creature has a heart and soul and without them, they will die.
