Fourteen-year-old Jed, half-Tsimshian-Haida, nurses an eagle back to health, though the challenge to find and free himself is even greater. Sadly, for his best friend Tadashi, a Japanese Canadian, life gets really complicated after Pearl Harbor. Walters tackles the sensitive issues of discrimination and intolerance in this boys' novel set in the Prince Rupert area during World War II, amidst the Japanese fishing village, the Haida community and the military base.
