Fawn Gets Her Spots is a story that explains how the animals Bear, Wolf, Eagle, Turtle, Deer, and Fawn got the qualities and attributes that they have (strength, fangs, etc.) from Wakan Tanka, the Creator. In this retelling of a traditional story, one animal, Deer, asks him for a special favour. In reading about Wakan Tanka’s response to this request, the children learn the importance of kindness and helping others.
