During Canada's 1837 Mackenzie Rebellion, Deborah finds a wounded rebel, Dan, in her family's barn. If she's caught hiding him, her family will be seen as traitors and the barn will be burned down, but if she turns Dan over to the sheriff, he'll be hanged. Deborah tries to do the right thing, though she is torn between her family and a rebel whose cause seems to her to be justified for many reasons.
