The story emphasizes the changing relationship between ten-year-old Tess and her mother, Sue, as they pilot their fishing boat through the treacherous waters off Vancouver Island. The brief documentary that follows the film includes interviews with filmmaker/author Jan Padgett and animator Amanda Forbis as they talk about the making of the film.
