The Restaurant at the End of the Universe follows on directly from the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

It is freely adapted from episodes of the BBC Radio programme The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which were first broadcasr on 5 April 1978, 24 December 1978, and 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 January, 1980.

Facing annihilation at the hands of the warlike Vogons, Arthur Dent hurtles through space powered by pure improbability and is desperately in search of a place to eat. Among Arthur's shipmates are Ford Prefect, a long-time friend and contributor to the The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy; Zaphod Beeblebrox, the three-armed, two-headed ex-president of the galaxy; Tricia McMilan, a fellow Earth refuge who's gone native (her new name is Trillian); and Marvin, who suffers nothing and no one gladly.
