"Catharine Parr Traill grew up in a rambling house in the English countryside, surrounded by books, servants and sisters. But in 1832, newly married, she left all that behind forever and embarked on a six-week journey across the Atlantic and into the wilds of Upper Canada.
From then on, Catharine's life would be one struggle after another - creating a new home in the middle of the wilderness, surviving the long, brutal Canadian winters, trying to grow enough food to feed her nine children, seeing her home and the family's possessions burned to the ground - all while pursuing a writing career.
It was a harsh, difficult life, but Catharine faced it all with courage and calm.
This is her remarkable story." cover
