Hockeybat Harris is an absorbing story about one of Canada's least known contributions to the early 1940s war effort -- the Child Guest Program. The arrival of 12-year-old David Harris from England has a profound and disruptive effect on another 12-year-old Saskatoon boy and his family who volunteer their home and their love during those difficult times. The novel deals with the relationship between the two boys -- the problems, misunderstandings and insensitivities of one to the other.
